Our Masonic Families
The one thing Freemasonry gives men that they might not have elsewhere is a large extended family.
Within our Masonic Families, we have a group of brothers and sisters that we know we can always reach out to for assistance, whether that assistance be with an issue or problem, or if it’s just to have someone to hang out with after meetings, or if it’s to have good counsel whispered to them.
I know because I’m a Freemason, I can travel almost anywhere in the world and always have a family to have dinner with on Lodge night.
With our Masonic Families, I know that if I need advice on almost any topic, I have a Brother to reach out to. I know that my kids, no matter where they go to college, will have aunts and uncles from a nearby lodge or OES where if they ever need a hot meal, they can find one.
The Masonic family is one of the major reasons I joined Freemasonry, and something I thought deeply about while helping to plan this year.

Our Masonic Families
To talk about the Masonic Family, we must first define what this is.
We can define the Masonic Family as groups that practice and have beliefs complimentary to Freemasonry, or restrict their membership to family members of Freemasons in good standing. For ease of this conversation we can use the example of the Eastern Stars, Job’s Daughter, Rainbow Girls, DeMolay.
For obvious reasons, these youth groups are the future of the adult men’s and women’s organization, therefore it is important that we support them in their activities as mentors and supporters.
We must always be conscious of our behavior, as we are role models for these groups. We need to demonstrate the behavior and values we practice in the lodge, therefore teaching our youth how to deal with life issues in a mature and moral manner.
My personal experience working and supporting the youth has given me great satisfaction, and my membership in the other adult organizations has been a lot of fun as well. There are lifetime friendships to be made within the Masonic Family, and I hope that you will join or support these to learn this for yourself.
